Dr. Mark Windale

Head of the School

Aspenshire International School is delighted to introduce our esteemed Head of Teacher, Dr. Mark Windale, whose exceptional expertise and extensive experience in the field of education have earned him recognition on an international level. We are proud to share his remarkable background and achievements, which reflect his dedication to advancing education at school, national, and global levels.

Mark is a distinguished education professional with an outstanding record of accomplishments. Previously until recently Mark held a senior academic post as Director, the Centre for Science Education, Sheffield Hallam University, UK, which at the time was the largest centre of its kind in Europe. Before, taking up his post at Sheffield Hallam University 29 years ago and following his undergraduate and post graduate studies at the University of London, Mark was a teacher holding posts of increasing leadership responsibility in 5 different comprehensive schools. His final post was that of a senior leader. He was also a lecturer, and coordinator of a national Biotechnology Education project at the University of Sheffield for two years. Following his retirement, he worked as a consultant in International Professional Development, Teacher Education, and curriculum development programmes with the University of Leicester. After 29 months as a Senior Specialist in STEM Education at SEAMEO STEM-ED and 16 months as a Senior Specialist in STEM Education and International Advisory Board Member for the International Association for the Future STEM Workforce (IAFSW), Mark is now working as a Supervisor at Sathitpathum Demonstration School.

Mark has experience of working at a national policy making level, running regional, national, and international programmes to support ministries of education. During the past 29 years his work has included running more than 40 national whole school improvement, Science and STEM Education programmes in the UK and in sixteen countries across the world to support school improvement; and curriculum and pedagogical change in Science and STEM. The projects have all included the Professional Development of school leaders and leadership teams in leading curriculum and pedagogical change; Professional Development of Science and STEM teachers; development of comprehensive Science and STEM teaching and learning resources (modules); development of dissemination training materials and videos; development of teacher educators and trainers; and research.

Mark co-led the development of the Southeast Asia Basic Education standards for Science and Mathematics for the Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) and the SEAMEO Standards for Science and Mathematics Teachers. In the UK he was also involved in developing standards for teachers, experienced teachers, expert teachers, middle leaders, and whole schools for the Department for Education (DfE). National programmes he has run in Southeast Asia include Inspiring Science (Thailand) which involved 3,500 schools leading to an increase in ONET performance in science in all the schools; IBSE Brunei (all primary and secondary schools) leading to increased science achievement; and HEBAT Sains (Malaysia) which involved all secondary schools and led to an increase in Malaysia’s PISA performance.

All the work he has carried out has led to academic output. Mark has written and contributed to more than 80 Academic Journal Papers; Government, Learned Society, Scoping Study,and Evaluation Reports; White papers; Authored Books and Edited Works.
